We hope you enjoy your stay in Kerala and hope the following information will help.

  1. All rooms are supplied with Bed Linen & Towels. Tea, powdered milk and sugar are by the kettle, along with mugs, glasses, plates and cutlery.
  2. It is advisable to keep all food and fruit in the fridge whenever possible or in one of the jars provided. Ants have an amazing ability to find any items of food left out in an astonishingly short time.
  3. The water is from our own well. Although perfectly safe to drink, it is advisable to boil it first or buy bottled mineral water if new to India.
  4. Please keep all valuables / passports in the lockable safe drawer in the wardrobe.
  5. The balcony is the perfect place to watch the sun set over the Arabian sea in privacy but there is also the roof where you can sit out, relax or sunbathe if you do not want to go down to the beach sit out area.
  6. There are two beaches to go swimming on. Our advice is  to go to Coconut Bay Beach where there are normally security staff and more people in case you get into any difficulty. Always check the condition of the sea. It can change from day to day and is not always safe to swim. The best advice is to see if other tourists are swimming, ask the security staff on the beach at Coconut Bay or Ambi if it is OK to go in.  If you are not a good swimmer it is always  possible to go to a nearby Hotel and pay to use their swimming pool for the day. The beach in front of our Hotel tends to be rougher so please be aware of the weather and look before going in.
  7. Mukkola Junction is the nearest village for shopping. This is approx. 20 minutes walk up the hill and turn left at the crossroads. There are local shops on the way which sell cigarettes, drinks and food as well as other household goods. There is a local restaurant at Mukkola where you can eat in (off the banana leaf or a plate) or have the meal packaged up and bring home.  You can always go down to the beach and buy a pineapple or fruit salad off one of the ladies. The fruit is always delicious and perfectly safe to eat.
  8. Please do not approach or feed any of the local dogs or animals. You may see the occasional lizard in your room. These are perfectly harmless and love eating flies and mosquitoes so look on them as friends.
  9. The best way to avoid being bitten by the mosquitoes is to use a mosquito repellent and at night use one of the plug-in mats provided and keep the fan on during the night as they do not like moving air and are less likely to land. Mosquito Nets can be provided if you are particularly sensitive to them.
  10. Please do not take the best towels to the beach. Beach towells and beach mats ar provided in your room.
  11. Power cuts are a frequent occurrence and an emergency light is provided in each room for such occasions.
  12. When leaving the room the key will automatically switch off all power except the fridge, which is continuously on. One light is also left on so you can see yourself in and out of the room. This can be switched off outside your room where there is also a switch to turn on the passage light.
  13. All the local children will run to you asking for a “school pen”, chocolate or rupees. It is an automatic greeting and even if you have nothing to give them they will stop and chat and practice their English. Everyone is very friendly and will go out of their way to help you and ask you to look at their things for sale. Bartering is expected in the village and it may take a while to buy something.

I hope the above information has been useful. Please let us know if any other information would have been  useful so we can add it to the list for future guests.
